This course introduces the fundamentals and applications of abrasive-based processes in surface engineering. The grinding module covers wheel design (abrasives, grit, grade, structure), chip formation mechanics, grinding ratio, thermal effects, and wheel maintenance (dressing/truing). The surface engineering module focuses on compliant finishing tools, Preston’s Law, lapping, and abrasive flow machining, highlighting their role in precision finishing for aerospace, biomedical, and semiconductor components.
