📘 Lecture Contributions (UTU)
As part of KTEK0035 Advanced Surface and Coating Technology, I will deliver two lecture modules on Grinding ⚙️ and Surface Engineering ✨, providing students with both theoretical grounding and practical insights into modern abrasive finishing processes.
🔹 Lecture 1: Grinding – Principles and Applications ⚙️
- 🛞 Grinding wheel design – abrasives, grit size, grade, and bonding
- 📐 Grinding mechanics – chip thickness, forces, surface roughness, G-ratio
- 🔥 Thermal aspects – heat generation, residual stresses, self-sharpening
- 🧰 Maintenance – dressing, truing, and prevention of glazing/loading
🔹 Lecture 2: Surface Engineering – Compliant and Advanced Finishing ✨
- ⚖️ Rigid vs. compliant finishing tools – adaptability for freeform surfaces
- 📊 Preston’s Law – influence of pressure and velocity on material removal
- 🔍 Lapping – fundamentals, process parameters, and precision applications
- 💧 Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) – setups, applications, and limitations
✨ Together, these lectures provide a comprehensive understanding of grinding and finishing technologies, linking fundamental mechanics with industrial applications in aerospace 🛫, biomedical 🩺, semiconductors 💻, and advanced manufacturing 🏭.
